The official Batna Province page published a few days ago a report about the Jetour factory, formerly a Kia factory. The report stated that the Chinese company Jetour would begin production of cars at the local factory in a few days. However, it appears that the report was inaccurate and led some to misunderstand.
Media outlets, citing sources familiar with the matter, revealed that the Chinese brand Jetour and its local partner in Algeria have begun the first steps toward restarting the factory, by inspecting the equipment, the occupancy rate, and the availability of appropriate conditions for manufacturing standards.
The same sources indicated that the Chinese manufacturer is studying the capabilities of the factory located in Batna Province, eastern Algeria, and evaluating the condition of the existing equipment to adjust production capacity according to what the Chinese partner can provide in terms of technology and manufactured models.
It’s worth noting that this project is still in its early stages, meaning the models to be manufactured have yet to be determined. This is contrary to what has been circulating on social media about the models to be manufactured and their prices. This is incorrect, according to a representative of the Chinese company in Algeria.
Estimates indicate that the new Jetour factory will begin production before the end of this year, 2025. However, these are merely estimates, as the company has not issued any official statement regarding the start date of initial production.
This is primarily linked to the condition of the former Kia factory, as well as to the bureaucratic obstacles that frequently delay industrial projects. This is unacceptable at a time when Algeria is suffering from numerous problems due to a severe shortage of new cars.
