The sixth-generation Renault Clio: The beginning of an entirely new generation

The sixth-generation Renault Clio The beginning of an entirely new generation

Renault is preparing to unveil the sixth generation of its popular Renault Clio during its highly anticipated participation in the Munich International Motor Show, scheduled for September 2025, in preparation for its official launch in early 2026.

Internal sources at Renault revealed that the new Clio will not simply be an evolution of the fifth generation, which was launched in 2019, but rather a complete redesign of the model. Although the concept version appeared on the road under heavy camouflage, expectations indicate a bold and completely different exterior design, with a more prominent front end and a double-edged rear spoiler that gives the car a distinctive sporty character.

One of the biggest changes in the new Clio will be its powertrain. Renault is completely abandoning traditional gasoline engines and relying solely on an advanced hybrid system, in response to strict environmental guidelines in the European Union.

The sixth generation is based on an improved version of the E-Tech hybrid system, combining a highly efficient four-cylinder gasoline engine with two electric motors for a combined output of 143 hp and 151 lb-ft of torque, with CO2 emissions of 96 g/km.

Why did Renault choose a hybrid-only system?

This decision comes as part of the company’s commitment to increasingly stringent European environmental regulations. Starting in 2026, manufacturers will be required to achieve average CO2 emissions of no more than 93.6 g/km, compared to the current 95 g/km, before this limit drops to just 49.5 g/km by 2030.

For comparison, the current TCe 90 turbo engine used in the fifth generation emits 120 g/km, making it unsustainable under new European policies. European environmental regulations make many engines unsuitable for use in new engines, so car manufacturers are resorting to hybrid engines.

Clio: A Success Story Poised for a New Chapter

The Renault Clio is one of the best-selling cars in Europe and continues to hold its ground despite fierce competition. Renault has been using major exhibitions to unveil its latest models since the end of the COVID-19 pandemic, such as the Renault 5, Renault 4, Twingo, Scenic, Megane e-Tech, and others. It now seems that it’s the Clio’s turn to shine again.

The official unveiling of the 2026 Renault Clio is expected to take place on September 8, 2025, at the Munich Auto Show, where full details regarding specifications, pricing, and equipment levels will be announced. Until then, all eyes will be on this car, which could represent a fundamental shift in the small hatchback segment.
