On Sunday, a court in the city of Ain Beida in the Oum El Bouaghi province, eastern Algeria, ordered the temporary detention of three suspects on charges related to illegal speculation in the Fiat Doblo Panorama. One of them is an authorized dealer for Fiat Algeria.
According to a statement from the Public Prosecutor’s Office at the court, a preliminary investigation has been opened into the illegal commercial practices of a private dealer authorized for Fiat Algeria.
It was discovered that this dealer was speculating in Fiat Doblo Panorama vehicles by selling them to brokers, who then re-offered them for sale in showrooms at high prices.
Subsequently, judicial police arrested three suspects and brought them before the Public Prosecutor’s Office to be prosecuted for illegal speculation.
Before adjourning the case, the Public Prosecution Office ordered the three defendants to be placed in pretrial detention.
For your information, the Algerian car market is suffering from a severe shortage of new cars. Investigations in recent months have revealed that many owners of new cars who resell them obtained them with the complicity of authorized car dealers.
The arrest of individuals accused of illegal speculation in new Fiat cars is sufficient evidence of the government’s failure to find a radical solution to the new car problem in the local market. It has been revealed that authorized dealers are the ones reselling new cars by circumventing weak laws, which only exacerbates the situation.
