Stellatis Algeria has revealed the progress of work on the new expansion of its Oran plant. This involves the welding and painting unit, which has reached 70% completion.
According to Stellatis Algeria officials, the new unit will feature modern specifications and advanced technology and will be equipped with robots to speed up the car manufacturing process within the plant.
The new factory expansion is part of a plan to achieve local car manufacturing in Algeria. Fiat Algeria began marketing its imported vehicles, then moved on to locally assemble the Fiat 500 at its Oran plant. Last year, it began assembling the Doblo model, which is highly popular and has received orders that exceed the plant’s capacity.
With the new welding and painting unit operational, the Fiat plant’s production capacity will increase and enable it to launch other models. Pre-orders for the Fiat Doblo and Panorama exceed the plant’s capacity, and the new factory expansion may help meet a large portion of customer orders.
It’s worth noting that the Stellantis Group in Algeria has concluded several agreements with universities and training centers to qualify and train workers and also to offer its manufacturing expertise to local startups.
