Stellantis will announce its new CEO by the end of the first half of 2025. John Elkann, the group’s chairman, confirmed the announcement during a hearing before the Italian Parliament in Rome.
Stellantis’s former CEO, Carlos Tavares, had a poor relationship with the Italian government, and several points of disagreement eventually led to his ouster. It appears the company wants to ease tensions and strengthen its commitment to Italy.
John Elkann used his speech to remind Stellantis of the importance of the Italian automotive industry and highlight the difficulties facing the sector, which he said has seen a 30% decline in the domestic market and a 20% drop in employment.
In recent months, the press has reported several names being considered to succeed Carlos Tavares, the most prominent of which are Maxime Picat, Stellantis’s former head of purchasing and European operations, and Antonio Velosa, the Jeep executive who was recently promoted to head of North American operations.
Other figures could also take over Carlos Tavares’s position, such as Olivier François, CEO of Fiat and Abarth, and Jean-Philippe Imparato, who was recently appointed President of Stellantis Europe.
The names mentioned in the press are merely speculation, and no official statement has yet been issued confirming or denying the imminent appointment of any of these individuals to the position of CEO of the Stellantis Group. It is also possible that someone from outside the group will take over.
It is worth noting that the Stellantis Group has experienced a decline in sales, and most of the group’s brands performed less than expected in all major markets, with Latin America being the only market to see an increase in sales.
