Peugeot’s new CEO, Alain Favey, confirmed to the media that the company will launch a GTi version of the e-208, this will be the company’s first GTi since the previous-generation Peugeot 308 went on sale in 2021, and it is Peugeot’s first electric sports car.
Alain Favey added: “I confirm that we will relaunch the GTi in the e-208 as soon as possible, we have taken the decision to relaunch the Peugeot GTi.”
He also said that this move represents a “signal” of “reconnecting with our past and history,” and that it will link the French brand’s road cars with its participation in motorsport .
Alain Favey also said: “We want to continue strengthening our brand’s reputation for providing an exceptional driving experience, and our cars create a distinctive driving experience, both for the driver and the passenger.” This powerful hatchback will spearhead efforts to enhance the brand’s reputation for exciting driving, according to the same spokesperson.
The new CEO’s confirmation of the return of the GTi logo follows his statement last month that bringing back the GTi logo would be his top priority when he takes office.
As for the internal combustion engined GTi, Alain Favey indicated that this would depend on customer feedback, and he probably didn’t want to jump the gun and announce plans that might not be of major significance given the challenges facing the French company, Peugeot.
