The last model of the Seat Ibiza city SUV, the twin sister of the Volkswagen Polo and Skoda Fabia, was launched in 2017 and had already undergone a facelift in 2021.
Therefore, as part of its traditional career, the small Iberian sedan was supposed to claim retirement rights this year and relinquish its place in the lineup to the sixth generation.
However, this is not the strategy chosen by the Volkswagen Group. The model is set to undergo a second design refresh, and official images of the change were revealed more than a year ago, during the 2023 annual results conference. At the time, the goal was to reassure investors, following rumors about the discontinuation of the Seat brand.
This third phase of the Seat Ibiza Mk5 will feature a more aggressive design, maintaining the car’s familiar shape but with sharper lines, and a change to the shape of the headlights and taillights, in keeping with the new design.
The Seat Ibiza will continue to play for overtime, remaining true to its traditional powertrain with a touch of hybridization, 48V mild hybrid technology will feature on the 1.0 TSI engine, expected to produce 110 to 116 hp, as well as a 1.5 TSI engine with 150 hp, which will retain the same power.
These won’t be full hybrid versions, like its competitors, but this combination of measures will allow the Seat Ibiza to continue until the end of 2027, as the next generation will be 100% electric starting in 2028.
