Agreements were signed today, Tuesday, in Algiers, aiming to develop the local spare parts industry by Algerian subcontractors and gradually integrate it into the national vehicle industry.

The agreements were signed at the Ministry of Industry headquarters, in the presence of the Minister of Industry, Mr. Saifi Ghrib, and the Minister of Knowledge Economy, Startups, and Micro-enterprises, Mr. Noureddine Ouadh.

The signed agreements constitute a memorandum of understanding between the Ministry of Industry and 13 vehicle manufacturers of various types, both foreign and local, with the aim of integrating local spare parts into the industry and supporting producers in this sector to obtain conformity and certification for their products.

In addition, a subcontracting agreement was signed between Stellantis Algeria and the start-up company IDNAT, which specializes in cables, and between the same company and Algeria Ham Motors SARL, which specializes in the manufacture of plastic components, with the aim of supplying the Fiat plant in Oran with locally manufactured parts, accessories, and assemblies.

The most important strategic objectives focused on by the agreements are:

  • Enhancing local integration by enabling manufacturers to rely on local products and reduce component imports.
  • Ensuring compliance with the specifications, particularly the provisions related to gradually increasing the integration rate.
  • Supporting the spare parts industry by providing a favorable environment for component manufacturers to enter the national and international production chain.
  • Encouraging cooperation between vehicle manufacturers and spare parts and accessories manufacturers to ensure high-quality production in accordance with the required technical standards.
  • Enabling spare parts and accessories manufacturers to obtain technical conformity certificates approved by vehicle manufacturers.

The Minister of Industry considered the Memorandum of Understanding signed between his ministry and vehicle manufacturers in Algeria a crucial step towards establishing a true vehicle industry, built on solid and sustainable foundations and based on a significant local integration rate.

He stated that it reflects a strong desire to reduce dependence on foreign markets and enhance the competitiveness of our products.

In the same context, Mr. Wahid, Minister of Knowledge Economy, Startups, and Micro-enterprises, affirmed that his sector is mobilized to harness start-ups and micro-enterprises to meet the needs of industrialists regarding subcontracting in the vehicle manufacturing sector.

He expressed his pride in his ministerial sector’s participation in building a national industry with high technical efficiency and competitive economic value, according to his statement.
