Representatives of the Chinese Sokon automaker and their Algerian partner met with the governor of Batna Province to learn about the project to manufacture the brand locally in the province.
The governor was briefed on the project, which will create dozens of jobs and provide commercial vehicles for the Algerian market.
In its first phase, the plant will assemble commercial vehicles and passenger vehicles using the “semi-knocked-down kit” (SKD) system, with a commitment to transfer technology to the Algerian side. The agreement also stipulates the training of human resources in the assembly sector.
According to Sokon officials in Algeria, their project is expected to provide 450 direct jobs at the outset, with the number of jobs increasing to 1,300 during the full assembly phase according to the agreed-upon system.
A statement from the state explained that Governor Mohamed Ben Malek received a delegation representing the Chinese company, in the presence of all directors of the relevant sectors: industry, state property, construction, and employment.
These directors will support the investor by providing a package of legal and practical facilitations to remove obstacles and accelerate the pace of implementation.
For your information, most car dealerships have closed their showrooms due to the ban on importing cars except for those with manufacturing licenses. This leaves Fiat dealers as the only ones still selling cars.
The remaining dealerships have either closed pending the reopening of imports and the commencement of manufacturing, or have abandoned their new car sales activities.
