Stellantis Group has officially announced the appointment of 51-year-old Italian Antonio Filosa as its new CEO, succeeding Carlos Tavares, who resigned in December 2024. This move aims to launch a new chapter to address the challenges of shrinking sales and declining profits in key markets.
After Tavares’ five-year tenure at the helm of the group, Stellantis experienced a sharp 70% decline in net profits last year, with €6 billion in liquidity being lost, particularly in the US market, which was subject to volatile tariffs. This challenging economic climate prompted the board to launch an internal and external search for a successor capable of rebalancing the group’s 14 brands.
Veloza began his career with the Fiat Group in 1999, managing the Betim plant in Brazil. He then held leadership positions in Latin America and Aviastar. In 2023, he led the Jeep brand globally, before becoming Chief Operating Officer for the Americas in October 2024. He succeeded in improving operational performance and strengthening relations with dealers and unions.
Veloza is scheduled to assume full powers on June 23, 2025, following a shareholder vote. He is tasked with restoring sales momentum, particularly in the United States, and rationalizing the brand portfolio, which includes Peugeot, Fiat, Opel, Ram, and others. He will also be tasked with rebuilding trust with dealers and governments whose shipments have been affected by tariffs.
