Stellantis Group sales reached 5.41 million vehicles worldwide in 2024, a 12% decrease compared to 2023, when it sold approximately 6.15 million vehicles. This is still far behind the Volkswagen Group, which recorded sales of 9.03 million vehicles in 2024.
Stellantis Group lost nearly 740,000 vehicles last year compared to 2023. This is the largest decline among the world’s 25 largest automakers.
The group’s sales in the European market, which comprises the 30 countries that make up the European Union plus the United Kingdom, Switzerland, and Norway, its largest markets, declined by 8% to approximately 2.57 million vehicles.
The main reasons for the sales decline were the delay in the launch of the new Citroën C3, the electric Citroën C3, the Citroën C3 Aircross, and the Opel Frontera, in addition to the temporary suspension of deliveries of the Fiat 500 and 500 EV, and the difficult transition between the old and new Lancia Ypsilon. DS’s performance also underperformed and underperformed expectations.
The sales decline was not limited to the European market, but also extended to the US, Stellantis’ second-largest market, where sales fell by 15%, or approximately 1.3 million vehicles. This was due to the delay in the launch of the new Ram pickup truck and the end of production of the high-volume Chrysler 300 and Dodge Charger and Challenger models. Dodge sales fell by 29%.
Sales declines are a common feature in all major markets, with China experiencing a 15.8% decline. The group sold only about 70,000 vehicles last year, out of a market size of 23 million.
The South American automotive market saw a recovery in Stellantis sales, with sales increasing by 4% to about 900,000 vehicles. This recovery is the only positive indicator for the group amidst the ongoing decline in sales. Nevertheless, Stellantis remains the fifth-largest automaker in the world.
