The Algerian-Chinese investment forum: a step towards strengthening economic partnership

The Algerian-Chinese investment forum a step towards strengthening economic partnership

Algeria will host the Algerian-Chinese Investment Forum on April 15th. The forum is expected to provide an opportunity to strengthen the partnership between the two countries, increase and diversify investment, and develop the Algerian economy.

It aims to transform Algeria from an importing country to an exporting country in all industrial and agricultural sectors, as well as promote tourism in the country.

The Algerian-Chinese Investment Forum is organized by the Algerian Investment Promotion Agency, in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and will be an important opportunity for a large number of investors from both countries to attend.

The aim of the forum is to explore potential opportunities for cooperation and partnerships, not only in the fields of energy, minerals, and infrastructure, but also in promising sectors such as artificial intelligence, technology, robotics, modern agriculture, tourism, and the mechanical industry, particularly electric vehicles.

Algerian-Chinese partnerships date back to the Algerian War of Independence. The most important sectors China focuses on in Algeria are the energy and minerals sector, given Algeria’s abundant natural gas and mineral resources.

Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s recent visit to China focused on the mechanical and spare parts industries, a critical sector for Algeria, especially at a time when it is suffering from a severe shortage of spare parts and new cars.

China will become Algeria’s main partner in the mechanical industry, as several Chinese companies have begun investing in the manufacture of cars and spare parts in Algeria. The most prominent companies are JAC Motors, Chery, Geely, BAIC, and Great Wall Motors.

Although these experiments are still in their infancy, the Algerian government has assured us that these investments will be an important step toward building a robust automotive and accessories industry.

China is Algeria’s most important trading partner, ranking first in terms of supplying the local market with a value exceeding 9$ billion annually, representing a share of over 16.5 percent.

The Chinese-Algerian partnership is present in most areas, but since we are a website focused on cars, we have focused this article on the automotive sector only.
