Volvo boss Jim Rowan steps down, ex-CEO Samuelsson returns

Scotsman Jim Rowan will leave Volvo at the end of this month. The reason for his departure has not been announced. His selection to take over the Swedish company in 2022 was a surprise, coming from the technology sector, where he previously held a position at Dyson.

During his time at the Geely-owned company, Jim Rowan oversaw the launch of the EX30, EX90, and ES90 SUVs. He was a prominent advocate for the company’s move toward electric vehicles based on a new, advanced software architecture, and helped oversee record sales.

However, he also backed away from Volvo’s plans to become a fully electric brand by 2030.

Samuelsson, who previously led Volvo three years ago, will replace Rowan temporarily. Samuelsson will hold the position for two years, effective April 1, while the company searches for a permanent replacement.

Samuelsson previously led Volvo from 2012 to 2022. He played a pivotal role in stabilizing the company under the ownership of Chinese automaker Geely and pushing it into the luxury car market.

He was also a prominent advocate for Volvo’s move to become an all-electric brand.

Volvo cars are considered among the safest and most advanced, and they continue to offer modern and unique designs while maintaining a high level of safety, making them a suitable choice for families.

The company was scheduled to transition exclusively to producing electric cars, but it appears that the transition has not yet come to a complete halt.
